“The Royal Hospital itself is one of Chelsea’s architectural gems and is a Grade I listed heritage site.”
Founded by King Charles II, the Royal Hospital on the banks of the Thames is home to the area’s most iconic residents: the Chelsea Pensioners. Famed for their scarlet uniforms, the Chelsea Pensioners are all retired soldiers of the British Army and have lived here since 1692. Today the registered charity still offers hundreds of veterans a home, comradeship and the very highest standards of care during their advanced years in recognition of their loyal service to the Nation.
The Royal Hospital itself is one of Chelsea’s architectural gems and is a Grade I listed heritage site. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the site’s spectacular interiors include the Chelsea Pensioners’ dining room the Great Hall and the Wren Chapel.
