Curzon Chelsea shows both big releases and smaller, arthouse independent and foreign language films.

Curzon Chelsea shows both big releases and smaller, arthouse independent and foreign language films in addition to major live opera and theatre screenings from the likes of New York Metropolitan Opera and London’s National Theatre.

Full of history, the cinema is built on the original site of film pioneer William Friese-Greene’s studios and laboratory. He patented a moving image camera in 1839 and experimented with colour and motion pictures. By 1934 a cinema – The Gaumont Palace – had replaced his studio.

A bas relief of his image can still be seen on the façade of the building.
